Sustained only by rainwater, and handwatered in summer, this Southern California inland valley garden requires 9500 gallons of water a year, based on its location in a Southern California inland valley and the type of plants used, with water requirements rated as low and very low.
Lawns in the neighborhood, same square footage, require 43,000 gallons of water a year to stay alive.

My Work

Linda Estrin Garden Design creates all styles of gardens -- Mediterranean, California Native, Hillside, Small Spaces/Courtyard, Children’s -- in richly colorful palettes of foliage and flowers, using distinctive and uncommon plants that thrive in our unique Southern California climate.

I feel very fortunate to live in the western Santa Monica Mountains, in Southern California. Residing in the Wildland-Urban Interface (areas where development pushes into our open spaces), I feel extraordinarily invested in and protective of the land. As such, I design exclusively sustainable gardens (the healthiest, most vibrant gardens, which also reduce water, cooling and heating usage, and protect and enrich our environment).
